No Forks Given

Can I have a witness? Two hours after swearing on a stack of fifty imaginary Bibles that I would never, ever, ever publish anything from my archives, I found myself wedged in a situation.

Summer, 2009 – A friend and I thought, “Let’s, like, totally deface a mannequin as an homage to Alexander McQueen (memba that headdress?) and Junya Watanabe (Comme des Garçons).” Yeah, sure, she had some at home, so we borrowed one. Ow!

Instead of using plastic to wrap the soda cans, as in the McQueen Horn of Plenty Autumn 2009 show, we used 110 denier tights, glue and wire. Nail polish went on the lips, can motifs and Hangul lettering. The barcode was inked with permanent marker.

My friend was really into Korean pop music and the Hangul script was hers. I have removed the forks because I don’t remember why we added them.

They are tucked away in a basket on a nearby shelf. But please don’t get any ideas. I’m not giving away any of my forks.

Hello and thanks for commenting. I edited the photo with the aim of making her look somewhat real. I’m very happy you thought so, too. The closest lip colour to the one she’s wearing is Fig by Estee Lauder. Warm wishes for the weekend.

This is fascinating and intricate art! Your core subjects are spectacular…the lighting and image treatment (if any) truly elicited an emotional reaction. Bravo! 🙂

Thank you for this compliment, Michael. The images were cooked through. I am happy to know you had an emotional reaction to my work. That is all I need to feel like I’ve been effective. Thank you for your support.

Thank you so much for your support. I don’t remember seeing sculptures on your art blog but if you’ve posted them, please point me to the location. I would love to take a look. It’s exciting to know that you’ve recycled them as art. xo

Unfortunately my last laptop crashed taking all my photos with it. The sculpture was of a Samurai warrior. I made it from all things that passers-by dumped in my front garden especially drink cans. I had to do something positive as it was making me depressed. In the end it got prime position at an art exhibition of folk art in my city that they named “I am Warrior”. It was as tall as me and I had no where to keep it. So when I took it to the tip – the refuse workers rescued it from me. It is now used to teach children about recycling when school trips visit the recycling centre.

That is brilliant!!! I like your attitude. Turning adversity into art. Brava! I am very glad the recycling centre has recognised your amazing work. Lovely. I’ll look out for it in case you decide to make a trip down to the centre to photograph it again. xo

Why can’t I find your blog? I get taken to two blank sites. Are you aware of the URLs that are attached to your Gravatar? Readers who are interested in visiting you may have a hard time doing so. Have a great Thursday. xo

Thanks so much for this lovely response. I was really for that dirt and grit in the red tab closeup. I forgot just how much of ourselves we poured into that thing.

You are so phenomenal. I’m caught up to the tenth ward of Jupiter in your creative energy. I can’t stop repeatedly looking at your work. Thank you for sharing all that you are in your art. I’m truly mesmerized and amazed. 😢✨❤️

The vintage look. Thanks so much. It’s partly the Canon (EOS). It does that with the HD images in natural light. And mGm has awesome home decor so that helped. Best wishes for the week ahead.

How strange we connected a few minutes ago. I used to design and sell mannequins. I was hooked on them. I sometimes miss that work. I’d love to do something with them again but they were so expensive to store. Your work inspires me so very much. Well Done. I have tweeted it. Couldn’t find you there. I am @bellevauk You are a very exceptional artist. Quite astounding. I wanted to reblog it too but couldn’t find your reblog button. I have a friend @slippery edge going to show him. I will have to make a note to keep dropping by.

Thanks, Tiffany. That is fascinating, your former work. I can understand the allure of mannequins. They are quite something. I’m not on Twitter and WP nixed my reblog button in an update. I appreciate the share and hope to see you soon.

SB this is so clever! Well done, as always. My favourite is the top-most image – there is something about it that is oxymoronic what with the aluminium and rose tint.
Inspiration comes from many places. Never say never eh? Have a great weekend x
