No Forks Given

Can I have a witness? Two hours after swearing on a stack of fifty imaginary Bibles that I would never, ever, ever publish anything from my archives, I found myself wedged in a situation.

Summer, 2009 – A friend and I thought, “Let’s, like, totally deface a mannequin as an homage to Alexander McQueen (memba that headdress?) and Junya Watanabe (Comme des Garçons).” Yeah, sure, she had some at home, so we borrowed one. Ow!

Instead of using plastic to wrap the soda cans, as in the McQueen Horn of Plenty Autumn 2009 show, we used 110 denier tights, glue and wire. Nail polish went on the lips, can motifs and Hangul lettering. The barcode was inked with permanent marker.

My friend was really into Korean pop music and the Hangul script was hers. I have removed the forks because I don’t remember why we added them.

They are tucked away in a basket on a nearby shelf. But please don’t get any ideas. I’m not giving away any of my forks.

Life is short, so let’s be decent.

I thinly your comment was spot on. The post was mainly “forks off” and I added the actual fact as a reference. I had done a full set with the forks and then took them off. By that time I had had plenty of practice editing.

Ha! I feel like we had a shared thought after you mentioned removing the forks, was imagining a conversation with you while reading and I said ‘so you don’t give a fork?to which you replied ‘hahaha’ and then i scroll down a little bit and there it is…

When my friends and I get togetherwe usually pay homage to coffee.

Thanks for joining us. As for homages, I know, right? We do things the hard way. I wanted to work with the element of surprise for this post. As for the forks, it was probably like, “Yeah, let’s just glue some forks on here.” But I think the main idea was to have the young lady look like one of Alexander McQueen’s runway models – a canvas on which unexplainable things are attached.

It looks like you had fun with it, definately an element of surprise with it. I’ll think of you on friday when I make some aquatic themed cupcakes for my baby’s birthday on sat. Can’t wait to make little fondue fish, star fish and turtles. 🐢🐡🐟🐠

Cheesy grin, that is awesome! I need a 100-200 word bio for the page which you can send to tmezpoetry at gmail dot com …. And thank you!

Well, it looks that way but it was quite a challenge to create and put together each component. Thank you so much for visiting. On Monday evening, though, I wondered if it was more difficult to build it or photograph it. I am more than happy to create that illusion.

It’s a pleasure to stroll across your online backyard and mischievously get you with the squirt gun hehe…now that it is summer and all 😉

This is my bio – Thank you very much.

@sabiscuit – I’m a three dimensional being composed of caramel flavoured macarons and green tea. I once asked myself, years ago when I decided to start painting again, “What is my voice?” I am still searching for it. And on the way, my archives are expanding, one inspired session at a time.

I’m really glad you enjoyed them. The eyes were covered to make the display about the headdress and not about the mannequin. We treated the surface area like a palette and tried to obscure as much of it as possible.

Thank you so much. I see what you mean, and I think the dark headgear and covered eyes (like a visor) had something to do with that. It’s great to meet someone who appreciates McQueen and Watanabe. I also appreciate the reference to one of my favourite films, thank you.

Yeah. Every time I see his rack in Barney’s I just stand there and cry. His piece are so clean, and yet so dirty at the same time. How is that even possible. I need to hit up his store this summer. Check out the new collection. I love him and want to give him a big hug. 😄

I hope he adds you to his next runway show. If you send him a bejewelled instant photo with your headshot and tell him he’s a good and dirty. His people will totally dig it.

You’re lovely as always, Eva. WordPress does crazy stuff. I have been looking out for your posts. Glad to see you’re talking about art. I’ll leave a comment for you there. Warm hugs, sister. xoxoxoxoxo

Thank you for your sweet words. Yeah, sometimes wordpress like that, 😀 I love arts so much, n you’re an expert at it. Yes, I just checked your comment, sister SB. That’s nice suggestion for me. Warm hugs to you too, sweetheart. 😘

Thank you, Sholehah. The storage cupboard is dark, even with the light on and I don’t like using the flash on my camera because it diffuses the colour. Also, I used “lomo” filters on many of the photos to make them look grainy and messy. The mannequin does not look really exciting sitting on a table. But you can imagine someone sitting there the way I captured it. That’s one advantage of photography, you can really tell a story.

Interesting use of odd objects to create a wonderful visual affect. I was just reading some of your blogs from June 2015 when your post arrived. I particularly like the red lip stick on the pearl white mannequin (with the bar code and Japanese script?). Nice photos too!

It’s Korean script (Hangul). I don’t speak Korean so I can’t tell you what the script says but I’m sure it’s something interesting. Thank you so much for this lovely comment. The lipstick was interesting as there was no hesitation about the nail polish. The small brush in the pot would make application very simple. I was monomaniacal on Monday afternoon capturing and later editing the photos for hours after. I trashed the first set after two hours of editing and did a new set of captures after realising I probably could do without the forks. I hope you’re having a great Tuesday morning so far. xo

I like the progression of pictures lol. I didn’t expect the pile of cans to be a headdress for a mannequin hahah. Is your archives like a place where you store all your previous artworks?

I am happy you enjoyed the surprise. Thank you for your kind comment. My archives are a physical collection of my work that I created before 2014 but never published on this blog. The mannequin is in a cupboard in an atelier that I regularly use.

Oh wow, is there a reason you said you wouldn’t public anything from your archives? It seems fun to revisit past works and spice them up (or completely deface them) haahha

I don’t revisit my work, as a rule, as I don’t feel like I’ll run out of ideas. My tastes, influences and values will change over time. However, I consider Alexander McQueen a genius and a very important influence for my work in an abstract form. When I create art, I try, like McQeen, to antagonise people who complain about “not getting” modern art. In my opinion, if it is not harming anyone, messing about with paint and found objects is not that big a problem. xo

hahaha I see. It’s true, even though billions of people have been born, expressions and ideas never seen to run dry. It would be unfortunate to have a day when everything becomes a cliche.

That’s good. I would have to agree haha. No matter how bizarre, how confusing, how interesting, I try to take what I can perceive and register it in my brain.

Thank you for looking. I am very happy you enjoyed it. It was kind of dark in there but I think it added to the mystery of the story. Warm wishes for the day. xoxo

I tried to pull it out, but I gave up and wedged myself in there after shifting a lot of stuff. However, I understand exactly what you mean. Thank you so much for viewing!

So very kind of you, thank you very much. It has been languishing in a storage cupboard for years. I was trying to remove it but realised it was better to do some acrobatics to get the photos. I am very happy you enjoyed the presentation.
