Captured in a forest reserve. The torches below were for our evening bonfire. The chopped wood for the bonfire is shown in the second to last photo.
In other news, I managed to make curry, over a coal fire, for ten hungry colleagues. No idea what I was doing and there was lots of improvising. So, it felt like an episode of MacGyver. The ingredients (curry powder, streaky bacon, potatoes, carrots and onions) were already prepped by the research facility that hosted us. Everyone was nervous about the potatoes but I Gordon Ramsayed them and they came out just right.

Thank you for viewing.

Cool. This must be an adventure! Cooking on woods! Bonfire! Nature really has given a lot to us. ❤️

Thank you so much. It’s weird how mundane the outdoors looked until I did a close-up of objects with my phone camera. I played with the saturation brightness, warmth, and added a ton of filters. All of these were edited on Snapseed using my iPhone.

I use only bookish photos for my blog. I will try to do editing with other things too. It really makes the post look fabulous! Nice work!

The photos don’t have to fit your post theme exactly. If you see something interesting, take a photo of it and play with it in the app. You’ll do great.

Abstract, textures, all in wood, a medium that’s been part of my life too. Although I have never been a big lover of abstract paintings I find your work interesting, and I must say these works in wood look very tactile, intrigued I am!

Thank you for this comment, Mick. These are all photographs of charcoal, wood and wood strips, which have been heavily processed with image editing software. So, the result is that they’re abstract art but I didn’t make them manually. I found the wood and processed the photos to look much different from the original. It started as an experiment and I wondered how far I could go. After playing around with the software, I was happy that my experiment worked.

Have to say it worked for me too. Keep at it, I’ve done a fair bit of manipulating of photos in the past not so much now’a days, just sharpening and cropping and sometimes the removal of a blemish or two. Going back a bit I’ll put one up that surprised me after putting it through the blender, I quite liked it and it got picked up by flicker’s most interesting robot.

Flickr’s robot. That is a huge compliment. I hope they’ll choose many more. xo

I have a lot of love for wood too. The smell, the appearance, the way it feels… just everything about it really.

Yes, wood rocks. It’s hard to explain how much it fascinates me so I am very happy you understand, too. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. xo

I did not curse. My boss was on flame fanning duty (and he was swearing for both of us). xo

Thank you so much. The software really popped that out, which was surprising and fun at the same time. Glad you could make it.

Hi Sabiscuit. I am sorry it has been awhile since you heard from me. I enjoy looking at textures of all kinds, and these photos of wood textures are great. I am glad that the curry turned out well. That is good that you were there to do the cooking instead of me. The only campfire cooking that I have done is roasting marshmallows on a stick when I was a child. 🙂

How are you, Arlene? Thank you for visiting. Roasting marshmallows sounds like a treat. I have never actually tried that before but I would love to, someday. Have a lovely weekend. xo

You are welcome, Sabiscuit. I am okay. I am busy as usual, but I am also a little sad because I recently lost one of my cats. I found out that he had an inoperable tumor, and the vet recommended euthanizing him because the tumor was causing him a lot of pain. I miss him and the other pets that I have lost over the years, but I know pets can’t live forever.
Roasted marshmallows tasted good to me because I liked marshmallows back then, but now I don’t like them anymore. My campfire was also out in the backyard and not in a forest. 😀
Thinking about cooking over an open fire brought to mind something I saw on a show similar to National Geographic years ago. The people simply skewered some big tarantulas on sticks and roasted them alive on an open fire!
I hope you are doing well, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend too. 🙂

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved cat. They never stay with us for long but they offer us so much love and comfort while they are with us. Warm hugs. xo

Thank you for your sympathy, Sabiscuit. Yes, you are right. They do make life brighter when they are around. It helps that I have other pets to take care of.

I had a massive crush for MacGyver – Richard Dean Anderson – for the same things you mention – handy and a confident improviser.

I was handy all right but the confidence was lacking. Thanks a lot for this.

What beauty you have captured through your lens! I really like the rich texture in some of these shots. And your wood-stove curry sounds equally delicious 🙂

Thank you so much, Beloo. It is always a pleasure to have you over. Texture is my thing. I just wrapped up an art conference and I talked a lot about creating texture and translating nuance with colour. I hope you are having a lovely Friday. xoxo
