Wax Horizon

Gouache on wood panel (wet/processed photo)

To the North and I hail
in full this wax horizon
bright across
a Martian sea*

Vignette
(Original; starting point of a colour study)

Meaning: Dust yourself off and try again. Notes: I didn’t realise until Thursday afternoon that the painting resembles the horizon as seen from Victoria Crater, Mars. *As you know, Mars is dry; however, 19th century areographers used “sea”, “lake” and “ocean” while mapping the planet. Thank you so much for viewing.

That’s so nice. Thank you. Of course I’d love for you to give it a go. Something tells me you’re a natural. It’s true that the storytelling aspect is the best part. Have a great weekend.

Mary, you are never too old for anything except not doing what you dream of. I’m sure there are ways for us to experience the planet without going there. And I feel that one of these nights, you’ll have a really good dream sequence about it.

I used to read a lot about this stuff when I was growing up. Memory had a big role even though the painting was an odd coincidence. The poem came out as I was imagining a time when water was on Mars. It’s interesting how we absorb so much early and later it comes out in a completely different form.

Thank you so much for that! For both endorsements, I mean. I got some really good feedback and was pleasantly surprised. The two stories + 1 extra are in the queue. Have a great weekend. xo

I can’t stop coming back to look at these images and every time I notice something different in the colour and the texture. I love them and the accompanying words. Enjoy the weekend.

Thank you, Tori. I am very happy to know that you liked this painting. It is one of my favourites. I was in the mood you were in earlier today when I painted it. Doing this colour study comforted me so much. I appreciate your support.

I’m thinking about doing some. Just Wednesday, two friends and I worked on some patterns we thought might work. I already have a stack of square blocks ready and waiting for carving. I just have to figure out how to get those done without hurting myself. Thank you for the encouragement.

Trust me, easy to forget. Last year, my forefinger + hammer on a frame I was putting together. Thankfully, I tapped lightly first. I can safely saw through wood, though. That’s good.

These are lovely! Funny, last night I watched the movie Martian and was thinking how beautifully they created the images. This is very reminiscent, gorgeous!

Thank you so much! I enjoyed the film, too. The sense of determination (Matt Damon’s character) had to stay alive resonated with me. I thought of him lying in the dust and feeling better after seeing a beautiful new morning.

I have begun to understand painting a bit now that my daughter has decided to go to University and study Art History. But I certainly understand the Mars sea concept. And I like it.

Thank you so much, Kim. Happy Friday. I am sometimes told my paintings look tasty. The original is special to me, for the same reason so I appreciate that you like it as well. I love that combination, too. Chocolate and caramel.

You’re most welcome. Happy Friday to you as well. I can see why the original is special. The warmth it generates, its sense of expanse, and that tasty chocolate/caramel feeling … It’s wonderful. Keep sharing those beautiful pieces of art!

Thank you so much, Rebecca, darling. I am agreeing with you on the pistachio and dark chocolate. I am a fan of Mars horizons because they look like chocolate covered nougat. Maybe that’s where Mars bars got their brilliant idea. ❤ ❤

Tonight! I have gongs tonight!! It’s such a lovely way to end the week. I am taking a newbie with me. That’s always fun. Last newbie I took rode home saying, “I feel so different. OMG, I hope this lasts…..” LOL I suppose it’s one reason I am a little weird.

Never put yourself down. You are who you are, working to be centred. Leave the weirdness for “certain people.” Have a harmonious Friday. I look forward to hearing the update. ❤ ❤

Oh I’m good weird. LOL. Not creepy weird. Just, you know, I try to stay outside the box. It’s far too confining. The gongs take me farther than anything else I’ve tried. I once opened my eyes when it was over and said to my friend the gong player,”Geez if I’d known about gongs when I was in college, I wouldn’t have smoked so much of that funny weed….” Who knew? It was always inside of me. 🙂

I love both the original and the altered…and, love the verses accompanying your pieces 🙂 Great work!

Thank you so much. I was going to post only the original version with a different story, but felt like waxing it up. Changed the caption to this poem just yesterday during my lunch break. I love it when verses appear at convenient times. Have a Friday full of bright horizons. ❤

You are welcome! I am happy you posted both because it is a pleasure to see the contrast between them. I agree, it’s great when these verses happen along, I love the title too 🙂 Thank you, and may your weekend be blessed with all great things 🙂
