Masking tape on notebook covers.

The notebooks are appreciation gifts for two lovely colleagues. To create the look, I used a lot of masking tape on the (paper) covers.

The method is simple:

  1. Select a minimum of four styles of masking tape in complementary and contrasting colours.
  2. Tear off tape, varying the length, overlapping and criss crossing for texture. Cover the entire surface, leaving no spaces.
  3. Use a pen or marker to outline a shape.
  4. Add contrasting tape to fill in the shape.

For best results, I suggest pressing the finished project under something heavy or leaving it alone for a few days to set. After that, transparent tape may be used to protect the edges if you use the notebook a lot.

Thanks, for this visit, NdeP. Masking tape peels easily at first, which is why I like it. But I discovered that working with smaller pieces, tearing rather than cutting and pressing or letting a project sit for days before handling it allows the adhesive to settle. Cellophane tape works, too, depending on the project. Best of luck. xo

You say the method is simple SB and this might be true for putting it all together but your genius is in your choice of colours, shapes, textures and style. And your character is in your thoughtfulness to show gratitude with handmade objects xx
