I absent mindedly brought a palette knife to a paintbrush party and here is the result.

I love your palette knife work and the finished piece is magnificent. I especially love the mid tones fluidly ensconced by the light hues. Beautiful work my friend!

Thank you so much. What you’ve mentioned sounds like what I call the light test. I feel that if the colour tones are well balanced, they will show up when I distort the image somewhat. I try to feel my way into the balance and that works best for me. I appreciate your encouragement as always. xo

Thank you Sabiscuit! I am working on a huge painting that I have not yet released because it is taking me so long to complete (oils). I hope you have beautiful day!

Not that I haven’t thought of it. I regularly do that to my tights for an edgy, damaged look. I am glad you like my treatment of the finished painting. Thank you. Have a great Friday. xo

Thank you for the lovely compliment. The acrylics are stashed somewhere. Oils are time consuming to dry and I need a lot of room so I don’t suffocate after a session. When this set runs out, I’ll get on them. Waste not…

The dahlia is the queen of my garden each year. You’ve captured the flamboyance of this wonder creature wonderfully. Even at night it begs to be seen. 💗

Thank you, Rob. I was mesmerised by a photograph and wondered how I’d overlooked this beautiful flower. That’s why I think a large work, something in the 5ft square range, would do it justice. Have a great Thursday.

I liked your skillful use of background to bring forth the central images in both paintings…and how the Dahlia did not detract from the background. Brought to mind something beautiful emerging from something dark. (Not that darkness can’t be beautiful.)

Thank you for this wonderful compliment. I am very happy you could see that. Just to be clear, it is the same painting but with different sets of filters. The colours in the second one are closest to the original but with a golden glow. The filter in the first added silver tones and muted the red hues in the ochre paint.

Thank you very much. Apparently, I’m a gangster because I’m always knifing things. Be it wood, canvas or paper. And please note that modern day gangsters love to dress up.

Thank you very much. Filters are a fun way to present my work. I used to do it to a lesser extent in the past but now a complex combo is the highlight of my presentations. xo

Ah, the Dahlia, able to adapt in any situation 🙂 I love both examples! It’s interesting how muscle memory often rules the moment 🙂

Thank you very much. If you look closely, you can see that it is the frame of a video recording. It was added with an image editor. The second painting is closer to the original in terms of colour. The angel kiss filter in the first added a lot of silver tones. This is a practice painting, which means that it is a test for a much larger painting, so it is not going to be sold. I try to use my paintbrushes. I have some nice ones, but they end up sitting there unused.

Thank you. (I admire paintbrush users the world over.) I wanted the first photo to look like the flower was being watched by a mysterious admirer. xo
