Sorry, we’re getting close…Way out?

“If you ever get close to a human,” sang Björk, “be ready, be ready to get confused. ” (Human Behaviour, Debut1993). You may have experienced or instigated a “sorry we’re getting close, please show me the way out” situation before.

[i] Sorry, we’re close. Way out?

It happened to me after a game of “SB, please don’t reject me.” I hid clues in plain sight. Soon enough, I noticed the scramble for a way out. But I kept calm and pointed to the door.

You see, my plan all along was to convert the vanishing points into refined sugar.  In the spirit of the game, I first looked longingly at the kiwi fruit panna cotta.

 [ii] Kiwi fruit panna cotta

While trying to make up my mind, I ordered an affogato. If you’ve never tried it, I should warn you, the middle section is a double espresso and will keep you awake for exactly 72 hours. (I have already stopped drinking coffee.)

[iii] Affogato, tiramisu and raspberry/cranberry panna cotta

A cranberry with raspberry panna cotta and tiramisu completed the set. My dessert is gluten free but I did not forget you, my biscuit eating friends.

[iv] Biscuit

That biscuit did not waffle. Please devour slowly with your eyes. The sugar crystals in the dessert salute your excess.

[v] Bon appétit!

Have a yummy xoxoxoxo bonbon time!

This is a fantastic piece!
The food looks good, and because I have stomach problems I am just moving over to gluten free foods.
I have read three poems here so far and I am enjoying the experience!

Thank you for your attention and for your kind words. It’s great to meet you. I follow the gluten free tag in Reader and it has been a wonderful experience, making friends and learning how to make meal times uncomplicated. Best wishes for your health. x

I’ll look out for it. I’m sorry to learn that you’re a diabetic. Makes life that much more complicated as it’s not only a matter of controlling sugar intake but also considering the other vulnerabilities your immune system must face. I hope you’ll keep in good health and that your work will help others who are unsure about how to manage their condition. x

I find you admirable! I am afraid I have succumbed to many different illness and if you read what I have written about pain and medical annoyances, you will see that when I write part two it will tell of the mis-diagnoses I endured. The diabetes I have was the result of steroid treatment for my bones and chest(asthma) over years. Some of my illnesses came as a result of side effects from medication. My Canal Stenosis of the spine is painful and has affected my mobility.
It’s a lot to take in but I have decided with my daughter’s support, to tell my story as best I can.
Thank’s for being you. I enjoy reading your work and I like writing things I hope people will be interested in.

And, I thought you were supposed to be my friend, yet what do you do? You wave, lovely yummy scrumptious desserts and drinks, right under my nose, just when I’m sat here, trying to keep my hands, off the chocolate in the fridge. You’re cruel. Cruel, I say!!! Lol ::D
Are you well, Poppet? ❤

Hello, sweets. I am doing well. I have apparently tortured a few people last weekend. I was very happy to do it. But you can do this, Julie. Do not touch the chocolate. You are not thinking about the soft, warm, melting chocolate. x

Lol :-D…..Ummmm, green smoothies? Not too sure about that, fruit smoothie maybe! Generally, I eat quite healthily, lots of vegies, nuts, muesli etc…and I’m at the gym 3-4 times a week, so I tend to look after myself….but I do like my chocolate, especially lovely ‘Dark’ chocolate. Yum yum !! 😀

UN voted a resolution and sent blue helmets here to protect me against such torture instruments like treadmills and other horrible machines, I am safe. I am into probiotics these days, they’re less traumatic… 😀 Much love, HC

Oh…my…..humans complicate things so. I am sorry about the ‘scrambler’. Thank goodness for dessert, it brings clarity, one of many reasons I like to use. Your selections were divine and my eyes danced across their sweet beauty, while the rest of my body grumbled and planned a rebellion. So when the weather clears I am obliged to go in search of a set of delightful desserts, including an affogato, which, though not as pretty as yours will hopefully do the trick and bring peace to my sugar craving heart. Thank you for sharing, they helped to sweeten the day.

Oh I so want to have that Tiramisu! Since you asked for “gluten-free replies”, I can tell you that I became gluten sensitive sometime last year – have no idea what triggered it. But living in South India it’s been easy so far to work things out as the main grain here is rice, unlike North India where wheat is dominant. But gluten sensitivity is still relatively unknown in India and people look at me incredulously when I tell them that I cannot have wheat anymore!

Thank you for your response. I am sorry to hear about your gluten sensitivity. Autoimmune illnesses can be triggered, I was told, after your body has been stressed by other allergens. I have always had food sensitivities growing up and I was told that they’ll keep piling up. I understand the situation very well, living in a place where food sensitivity is unknown. If you try tiramisu, you will enjoy it very much. Thank you again. x

The swan dress was a palm to the face moment, but knowing Bjork and her substance abuse issues, I am sure it looked like a great idea at the time. Given my blah reaction to Lady Gaga and the meat dress, I guess she desensitised me to that. x

Thanks, J. Bjork sang about it in big time sensuality. People thought she was singing about the birth of her daughter. DR9, I’ll have to look into but thank you for the reference. x

Dana, I have celiac sprue and a number of my family members have been diagnosed. One of my cousins and, before her, a grandmother, have died of colon cancer. My cousin’s death pushed me and relatives to get a definitive diagnosis. I wrote about non medical professionals’ reacting to what they say is my “non existent” health issue in a post called Bread. I would rather have people disapprove of my “choice to not eat gluten” without first learning of my condition, than die of colon cancer. Most people I know with food sensitivities have been assessed by medical professionals. I draw the line when people impose their food choices on me. I’m fatally allergic to things so that is not a matter of annoyance. Otherwise, what people say they will or will not eat is their choice. Thank you very much for supporting me this far.

I didn’t mean to offend you! The article that I pointed to is for non-Celiac disease “sensitivity” and I am very well aware of colon issues, as I suffer from my own. The point is that many people are not diagnosed at all and although certainly gluten free products serve a purpose, the industry that has grown up around it (because of something people only “think” they have) is astounding.

I wrote about my personal issues in this postand mentioned that I have celiac sprue on my about me page. It is very stressful for me when I have to submit to medical tests and feel an immense amount of discomfort, only to be told by someone, anyone, that I need either go to hospital and get checked (I already did and can’t be fixed) or take some holistic medicine (which has allergens in it) or that I’m making it up. It is very distressing. x

Thank you, Jarrod. I wish I had your restraint. In my mind, I am fully capable. But my body just won’t cooperate. I hope you’re having a great Saturday. x

It is a mind over matter thing. I have dedicated my mind to my fitness journey.

On a lighter note, I have a friend who works out a lot but loves sweets. One of my greatest interactions with him included him eating a cupcake as he told me he should not be eating the cupcake and how terrible it was for him.

Your friend certainly sounds like an interesting person. There’s nothing like a little guilt to flavour a delicious cupcake. (Mysteriously offers you an apple 🍎 )

Thank you. “Hot Diggity.” I’m using that soon. You are right thing was literally steaming hot wallop packing Java with ice cream. It was ill. There was a lot of digging. The chef took a break from baking to congratulate me for trying it. I now understand what he meant.

Its not so much the rejection – one can simply get fat in its place! Your pictures made me think why (oh why) don’t we have restaurants which serve desserts and skip the rest? But then now I’m warming to the theme I also fancy a sweet duck a l’orange, some leek and celery soup for starters, hmm, working backwards too! XX

This made me cackle. You always know what to say. I love that I live on a planet that has restaurants that only serve dessert. This one is next door to one of my favourite kitchens, so the upside down meal is a matter of efficiency. Also, your menu choices are fabulous. I love leek. x

1. I had to stop drinking coffee. I don’t want dry skin from the inside out going into winter. It’s a vanity project. Of course, I have to get lots of sleep because there is no compensation. Green tea does not work.
2. Enjoy. I have missed you. And… I am eagerly waiting the next installation of your story.
3. Thank you very much. Just the tiramisu set in the middle. The others were on display so I decided to photograph them. The middle set came after climbing up a mountain. So, I can explain the calories. The photos magnify them, but the desserts are really tiny. Promise.

Thank you. I’m glad it suits your taste. These desserts are usually enjoyed slowly over a very long chat and a very long sip of Earl Grey. It’s really intense having them all on the same page. x

I could have sworn you responded to this with your choice of who you’d most love to have a conversation with. It’s taken me this long to figure it out and your comment disappeared.
Did I imagine it?

I was surprised how difficult it was to choose…
But, taking what’s in front of me right now, I’d love to sit with Kazuo Ishiguro and just learn how his mind works. I’ve never read any other author whose creative range is so great.
And maybe Lawrence Durrell.
For the serious stuff, anyway.

With Ishiguro try Remains of the Day and The Buried Giant. Both brilliant.
And I think you would love Durrell’s Alexandria Quartet. It’s like an impressionistic painting in words.

That’s great to hear. I am sure it will be worth the sacrifice now. I remember college mess in my undergraduate years. But for post graduate work, our seminar meals were catered, gourmet. Now that’s a good reason to pursue higher education.

Your subjects are very interesting. I did not specialise in the sciences but I do maintain an interest by keeping updated with the literature. It sounds like you have a lot of Nobel Prize opportunities ahead of you. Best wishes. x

Hahaha…you are buttering me, Ma’am. 😀 It’s not so easy. I love discovering and knowing new things. And Nobel is something sacred. You cannot aim for that. If people feel happy then only they will give. One can’t win a Nobel. Still, do bless me to be a lotus in the muddy water of competition 🙂 Blessings are really helpful 🙂

Thank you for the invitation. I think we are all trying to find our way and polishing is really up to your level of awareness and the message you want to convey. You can do both, save the world and write about your adventures. There is no need to separate the two things. x
